My experience with Keller Williams wasn't bad. My sense is there is a lot of variation in the capacities of the real estate agents, so it's important to do your due diligence and choose wisely. I was so ready to finally buy our first house, I mistakenly underestimated the importance of researching and finding the strongest possible representation. Although we initially worked with KW, we didn't end up purchasing with them. Since it was our first time, we didn't have a baseline to compare the real estate agent to. Once we terminated our agreement, did our research, and chose another local realtor, my goodness, it was a night and day difference. With our new realtor, we knew more about the property before even entering the door than we did with our KW realtor when we were making an offer. With KW, it felt more like we were working with a secretary who just facilitated showings and offers. It was more superficial. And, oddly, even though KW has a huge network, there was very limited capacity to schedule showings if she wasn't available; eventually, it felt like more of a hindrance to have to work through the agent. Even though the new realtor was independent and had a fraction of the team of KW, there was never a time we were just left in the gap because the representing agent wasn't available. The systems in place were so much stronger, better thought-out, and buyer-friendly from the very first meeting. The quality of the professional references was stronger as well and the references actually knew who the agent was. These details matter when purchasing real estate. Our KW agent was very nice, but in an oversaturated field of real estate agents, there seems to be a large pool of agents who view this work as a flexible, elevated side hustle. They certainly care about their clients, but I get the sense it's just a job they fit into their busy lives. By the end of our time with KW, this is exactly how we felt. Choosing an experienced real estate professional who views their work as a career and has a deep repository of localized knowledge to pull from makes a world of difference, both in the experience and the outcome. It's the difference between having an agent who "has to" help you with one of your biggest financial decisions vs. having an agent who "gets to" to help you with one of your biggest financial decisions. Some approach it as job vs. some who approach it as a service--and, my goodness, you can feel the difference as a buyer.

In 2019, 2021 I had a Keller realtor failed to do her due diligence when I bought a house. Instead of representing me, her focus was to sell my house and get me into a house. She didn’t negotiate. She didn’t do anything. And then made me feel like a bad person. In 2023 I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease from a brain injury in 1998. I filed complaints with the real agencies who monitor discrimination. I’d never use Keller Williams.
